Kununurra Withdrawal Intervention Centre (KWIC)

The Kununurra Withdrawal Intervention Centre (KWIC) is a specialist alcohol and other drug (AOD) withdrawal service operated by Wunan Health.

KWIC is a low medical withdrawal service, meaning it supports people whose withdrawal can be managed safely with clinical oversight but without the need for a hospital setting. Medical care is provided through Wunan Health’s General Practitioners and clinical and non clinical support staff working together to deliver culturally appropriate care tailored to each person’s needs.

KWIC operates from a purpose-built six-bedroom residential facility. The centre provides a calm, supportive environment where people can withdraw from alcohol and other drugs while receiving professional care and support. The design reflects Wunan’s commitment to creating spaces that are welcoming, respectful and culturally appropriate for Aboriginal people and the wider East Kimberley community.

A comprehensive care plan is developed with patients in liaison with local referral agencies, followed up with a post treatment after care plan linking consumers to the Wunan’s Foundation range of services.

By combining clinical expertise with cultural safety and strong community partnerships, KWIC aims to support people not only through withdrawal, but also on their longer-term journey towards recovery, improved health and greater social wellbeing.
